BOTs & Basketball: March Madness Challenge

Written by:

Do you love BOTs and Basketball? Reveal Group has split over two dozen developers into teams to create the best bracket-picking robots. Starting Selection Sunday, March 13th, we will introduce you to the teams as they share their creative strategies and technical tips across 4 different RPA platforms.

Are you on RPA developer who can you bring the heat? Record a demo of your approach before noon ET on March 17th to join the competition. We would love to showcase your unique approach to this challenge.

Remember your BOT is going to need some logic to complete a March Madness bracket pick-sheet. Will it just flip a digital coin or prioritize selection based on your mom’s favorite mascots? We are excited to learn about your creative approach.

Choose your target bracket

There are many options for digital March Madness bracket pick-sheets. Here are a few:

Signup for the Office CBS Sports Bracket Challenge Here. However, the bracket template will not be available until Selection Sunday.

Complete a PDF version of the printable bracket from the NCAA. This lets you start the design now, but you will need to create a data collection for the initial seeds on Selection Sunday. You can find a bracket template HERE

Reveal Group’s selected approach is to host our teams on Run Your Pool. This allows our developers to tinker with a sample bracket pick sheet. However, as with any real-world website automate, our teams know this sample may change without warning on Selection Sunday.

Develop your strategy

RPA Software Robots are a force multiplier that can scour the web to aggregate and analyze data. Will you teach your robot to choose to scrape data from analyst websites and crunch hard performance stats? Will your robot take a more astrological approach and rank the zodiac signs of each player? The countdown is on to develop the upstream automation that will feed bracket building BOT.

Selection Sunday

On Selection Sunday – March 13th – The NCAA Men’s Division Basketball Committee selects, seeds, and backets the 68 Team NCAA Tournament starting at 6:00pm ET. Once complete, your robots can complete your bracket pick-sheet. Brackets lock at noon ET on March 17th and the first round of March Madness begins.

While brackets are open, you should record your RPA Robot completing your bracket pick-sheet. Each Reveal Group team must film their BOT performing the following actions:

Log into runyourpool.com

Navigate to make bracket picks
Pick teams for all 63 games
Submit the completed bracket
They must also show their work on any pre-pick logic.

Our 4 team brackets will be shared across Reveal Group social outlets on March 17th and we would love to see your bracket picks. Please lets us know if you would like our support to showcase your solution design.

The Competition

Was your RPA BOT on fire or was it a bracket buster? Here is how we will be scoring throughout the March Madness tournament from March 17th to April 4th.

Each robot must pick all 63 games of the NCAA Tournament. The pick deadline is set to March 17th at 12:15 PM ET. Points are awarded throughout the tournament for each correct pick.

Points values increase as the tournament progresses, as follows:

First Four = Play-in games are not included or scored
First Round = 1 point
Second Round = 2 points
Sweet 16 = 4 points
Elite 8 = 8 points
Final Four = 16 points
Championship = 32 pointsThe pool does not use a seed point bonus. Correct picks will be awarded the points assigned for each round.
The winner is the entry with the most points at the end of the NCAA Tournament.
